Neighborhood Conservation District Study
Point Breeze, a South Philadlephia neighborhood of uniform blocks of two-story homes, is experiencing development pressures that are leading to the intrusion of unsympathetic three-story houses as infill in otherwise intact blocks. Brawer Hauptman + Larkin was hired by the Preservation Alliance of Philadelphia to assist the Point Breeze community in establishing a Neighborhood Conservation District that overlays zoning guidelines tailored to the specific issues of the neighborhood. Mike Hauptman had co-authored the guidelines and led the adoption process for his own neighborhood, Queen Village, which became the first Philadelphia neighborhood to become an NCD.
