Xiente Community Center
Norris Square
Philadelphia, PA
Xiente, formerly the Norris Square Community Alliance, serves the surrounding neighborhood of North Philadelphia. The organization's administrative offices occupy the former parish house of St. Boniface Church on Norris Square. Xiente proposes to renovate the church's former school as a community center that will contain modern classrooms for after-school and other educational programs, and recreational spaces including a renovated top floor gym and auditorium. The project supports the organization's mission and vision "to create a 'path of economic mobility' that empowers people to rise up from poverty to prosperity".
Brawer Hauptman + Larkin has been working with Xiente to restore and renovate this neighborhood asset, currently awaiting additional funding following the receipt of a RACP state grant.
The project was the focus of BH+L's participation in the Summer Search program over the past two years.
