Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation is a growing Reform synagogue in the planned suburban community of Reston, VA outside of Washington, DC. The existing building was built in phases over the past 35 years and was in need of reconfiguration, expansion and renewal. BH+L completed a Master Planning Study to provide a guide for moving forward over the next decade and beyond.
In addition to a serious parking and traffic situation, the building suffered from an ambiguous entrance problem and inadequate social, adult ed and gathering spaces. A generous new lobby with a central entrance resolved these issues as well as handicapped accessibility and an updated image. The Study also addressed sanctuary and social hall redesign, classroom additions, pre-school improvements and infrastucture upgrades.
