BH+L served as the Historic Preservation Architect for the restoration of a row of historic commercial storefronts that were incorporated into The Artisan Condominium, a luxury residential complex in downtown Washington, DC.  Serving as the building’s main lobby and adjoining restaurant space, these early 20th-century structures were preserved and returned to their 1920’s appearance.  Using period photos, the storefront configurations and canopy details were documented for replication.  The upper floors were integrated into the apartment plans of the condominium tower constructed behind and adjacent to the preserved structures.
